San Antonio, TX
My husband Lee and I had our first date at Twin Anchors in 1986. I was a junior at the University of Illinois - Circle Campus and he was soon departing to Naval flight school in Pensacola, Fl.
Ever since that first date, Twin Anchors has been a favorite place to eat in our family. As a military family, we lived in several major cities over the last 18 years. Every visit home to Chicago meant a visit to Twin Anchors. To this day the corner of Sedgwick and Eugenie holds a special place in our hearts. It is a place for family and friends and it truly is the epitome of the great city of Chicago. It is the yardstick by which all other restaurants are measured.
In early 2002, we found out we were pregnant - with twins! We struggled to agree on first names for the twins. Selecting middle names became an even more painful experience as we traced family trees back to the stone age to find names more agreeable than Phyllis and Buford. One night, however, I joked that we should just make the middle names Sedgwick and Eugenie and be done with it. My husband looked at me and said "Of course. TWIN anchors. Sedgwick and Eugenie. Get it?&" Got it.
Kai Sedgwick and Jenevieve Eugenie were born July 25, 2003 in Houston, Texas and have been to Twin Anchors twice in their four years. We can't wait until they figure out they were named after an intersection in Chicago. They'll be mad at us, I'm sure. We will tell them it could have been worse: Twin Anchors could've been located on Wacker and Wabash. I hope they will love the story of their names, and especially the restaurant, as much as we do.
Thank you for such a great place to eat.
